During the Eclipse of the Sun, we can see that some portions of the Sun’s surface are covered by the Moon.

When the Sun is totally covered by the Moon, the total Eclipse of the Sun occurs.

ANNUAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUNPhotobucket

If the Moon’s unbral shadow does not reach the Earth, an annular eclipse occurs.

The total Eclipse of the Sun can last from a few seconds to a few minutes.

How does Sun Eclipse form?

Photobucket

We know that the Earth revolves round the Sun and The Moon revolves round the Earth.

Photobucket

During these revolutions, at certain times the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth along a straight line.

Thus, the Moon blocks the sunlight from reaching the Earth.

The eclipse occurs if the Moon’s shadow falls on the Earth’s surface at that time.
